September Newsletter

Mrs. Butler’s First Grade Friends

2009
Dear Students and Parents,
I can’t believe that summer is over and we are back in school. It was so nice to meet all of you at the meet and greet and assessments. I am looking forward to getting to know you better this year.
The first day of school was a great success. The students had a fabulous time playing pirates and hunting for treasure around the school. We found all the alphabet letters, numbers 1-30, and all 25 sight words that your children learned in kindergarten. What a great review and a great way to tour the school.
This is going to be an exciting month in room 7. We have lots of great things planned.

Themes for the this month:
• Review letters and numbers.
• Word family review – at, an, it and ig words.
• Patterns , making numbers, and number relationships.

Important dates to remember are:
• Sept. 3rd – Back to School Night 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Adults only. No children please.
• Sept. 4th – Watermelon Day! The day will be filled with fun watermelon activities.
• Sept. 23rd – Picture day
• Sept. 25th – Room Parent Tea

Homework:
• Please help your child memorize their lunch number.
• Read for 15 minutes each night Monday thru Friday. Please record the time you have read on the weekly reading log. Children receive a reward for reading nightly.

We love parent helpers in our class. I will send home a parent helper calendar after back to school night. Next month it will be included on this calendar. Please sign up or call me if you would like to volunteer.
If you have any questions or concerns I am happy to speak with you after class is over. You can also call me at the school 572-7016 ext. 5923 (but please don’t call during class time). My e-mail is julie.butler@canyonsdistrict.org. We have a class blog this year. It should always have the latest information about our class. Our blog address is http://mrsbfirstgradefriends.blogspot.com. Thanks you for letting me share this time with your children. They are all so delightful!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Butler
